The painting is on Cold Press, extra heavy, off white Crescent art board and I aim to produce the finest detail in both the subject and its natural setting. The shade of the Daler mountboard is carefully selected depending on the painting, as is the toning of the frame itself.
Kingfishers travel at lightning speeds, catch several fish each day, raise up to three broods every season and fiercely defend their territory at all times. They are widespread, except for northern Scotland. For an almost guaranteed sighting, head to Lackford Lakes in Suffolk, often from the visitor centre as you enjoy a coffee or ice cream.
