Great Spotted Woodpecker " Little Drummer Boy "

Framed size 18" x 12", with non reflective glass.  I painted this fine character for an next Exhibition at Holt, trying to capture the mood of his frequent, rather secret setting.  The name has come from a customer.  So apt!   SOLD Privately.

There are just two black and white woodpeckers to be found in Britain, so identification is relatively straightforward. One of the main characteristics is the red underneath the tail. This is not found on the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.   Read more....BTO Great Spotted Woodpecker. 

The painting is on Cold Press, extra heavy, off white Crescent art board and I aim to produce the finest detail in both the subject and its natural setting.  The shade of the Daler mountboard is carefully selected depending on the painting, as is the toning of the frame itself.
